Saffran finns omn\u00e4mnd och avbildad redan f\u00f6r \u00e5tskilliga tusen \u00e5r sedan i de flesta gamla kulturerna och anv\u00e4ndes tidigare fr\u00e4mst i medicinskt bruk f\u00f6r att bota m\u00e5nga olika \u00e5kommor, t.ex. magbesv\u00e4r, men \u00e4ven som afrodisiakum och parfym.
